This is probably the number one reason for the negative blogs and threads pertaining to Primerica, on the internet.
There are 4 ways to introduce the Primerica opportunity to someone for the first time. 1) a one on one interview at the office (the mainstream way), 2) the Primerica representative comes to the person's home to do a presentation, 3) a one on one outside of the office at a coffee shop, restaurant, ..., 4) a group information session at the office (great for compressing time frames). The last one depending on the individual, can be the best first exposure, the worst first exposure, or somewhere in between. I can see why it would come across as a cult when people are not prepared for that. It would be like someone showing up at a church who didn't know what takes place at a church or understand the value of a church session. The person who invited them may just say something like, "yeah, come see our operation. We're going to be going over some great stuff that'll benefit you and ... well, just come out and find out for yourself."
Primerica people need "to be honest" as to what the prospect is coming to! I tell people, "when you come to the office, it won't be an interview. It'll be group format similar to a career seminar. Now, would you be okay with that as a first exposure to our company?" For certain prospects, especially people who have their resume out there, I ask, "are you only looking for a regular type job at this time or are you also looking at entrepreneurial opportunities?" If they shy away from that even as a part-time option, I don't make any additional attempts to get them to show up to an information session.
I would like to apologize for people in the company who are reckless in the way they go about doing this. For people in the company who are doing this, smarten up! For people who need to check this opportunity out, please don't allow some individualistic internal sloppiness to negatively taint your overall opinion too much.
